This past weekend we met up with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Michelle and Kevin at the DC National Zoo. We had this little day trip planned several months in advance. We were looking forward to a nice relaxing day of watching the animals and enjoying a picnic meal together. As it turns out several thousand others had a similar idea for the weekend. Since it was the first nice weather weekend after numerous rainy ones likely contributed to the crowds. The day was even more challenging in that a wrong turn in the middle of DC resulted in about an hour detour and ultimately arriving at the parking lot after it was already at capacity.
Despite these setbacks we were able to regroup and had a very good time. We found a parking spot about 7-8 blocks away and made the best of it. You may notice there aren't any picture of Aubrey and the animals. This was largely due to the enormous crowds surrounding every exhibit. We enjoyed seeing each other which is what counted. Aubrey had lots of time with her family and did enjoy the animals we did see. Especially a baby gorilla. If we do it again we all agreed middle of the week may be a better call.
